Atlantic Grocery Distributors Ltd, AGD, became a corporate entity in 1991 after local businessman, David Powell, purchased two small wholesale distributors and a warehouse facility in the Bay Roberts area. With many years experience owning and operating a local supermarket chain, Powell’s Supermarket (with locations in Bay Roberts, Carbonear, and Harbour Grace) he felt it had come time to expand into wholesale distribution in order to meet the needs of his customers and provide them with the best possible prices. The combined retail and wholesale experience of his acquisitions totaled in excess of 100 years. In our early years, AGD was known as Atlantic Frozen Foods, and in 1998 we changed our name to accurately reflect the complete product line which we carried.

In 2001, AGD purchased another wholesale company in Port Aux Basques, to be renamed Fowlows Atlantic Wholesale Ltd. This enabled AGD to more efficiently distribute all across the island of Newfoundland and even the French islands St. Pierre - Miquelon, the north shores of Quebec, and the mainland portion of our province, Labrador. We also began to distribute Newfoundland and Labrador manufactured goods to specialty stores across Canada, offering fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans a little taste of home. In 2007, AGD continued to grow with the purchase of Andrews Wholesale, a competitor and next door neighbor which further enhanced our customer base and broadened our product line.

Today, AGD is known as the largest wholesale distributor in Newfoundland and Labrador. We have grown significantly over the years and are proud to offer our customers practically anything and everything they need in the shortest amount of time possible while offering exceptional prices and unmatched customer support.
